Bailey’s Clubhouse and The James at OSU Partner to Support Parents in Cancer Treatment with Access to Childcare

Bailey’s Clubhouse and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer
Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC
– James) are pleased to announce that they are working together to develop a collaborative
solution to support adult cancer patients with young children.

This effort aims to meet a growing need by offering childcare services during treatment, helping
families focus on care and recovery. This service underscores the OSUCCC – James’
commitment to delivering comprehensive supportive services for patients and their loved ones
—a vital step toward achieving our vision of a cancer-free world.

The OSUCCC – James is the only cancer program in the United States that features a National
Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center aligned with a nationally ranked
academic medical center and a freestanding cancer hospital on the campus of one of the
nation’s largest public universities.

The mission of Bailey’s Clubhouse is to provide childcare for children of cancer patients. This
service removes a major barrier to completing care, enabling ill parents to successfully attend all
vital cancer treatments and medical appointments without childcare stress. The organization
was founded by Bret Hosket, who observed patients struggling to manage young children during
appointments while accompanying his late wife to her treatment.

“Through Bailey’s Clubhouse, we are turning our family grief into positive action, as providing
childcare access improves compliance and attendance for complex and lengthy oncology
treatment plans. Ultimately, the physical and mental health status of both the children and
parents/guardians will be improved through the services provided at Bailey’s Clubhouse,” says
Hosket.

The OSUCCC – James and Bailey’s Clubhouse will work together to open the flagship location
Bailey’s Clubhouse childcare center in Central Ohio. This innovative collaboration will serve to
close the childcare gap in services for young families with a parent facing cancer.
